UC Browser is immensely popular in India, and it is developed by UC Web which is owned by Alibaba Group, China. Recently UC Browser mysteriously disappeared from PlayStore.

No one had opened their mouth until a Twitter user named Mike Ross pretending as an employee of UC Web stated some reasons for removal. He said “I work for UC Browser, I got the mail today morning it said that UC Browser was temporarily removed from play store for 30 days because it used “Misleading” and “Unhealthy” methods of promotion to increase installs.”

The twist in the story is that the user isn’t an employee of UC Web. UC Browser responded to his tweet saying, “We would like to state that we have no records of anyone named ‘Mike Ross’ claiming to be working for UC Browser, as mentioned in some reports.”

The reason for the removal has nothing to do with alleged data security breach or malicious promotion,” said UCWeb.

Reasons for Removal

The original reason for removal is that a certain setting of UC Browser is against  Google’s policy. So Google put a temporary ban of 7 days.

We were informed by Google Play about temporary removal of UC Browser from the Play Store for 7 days, beginning 13 Nov 2017, under the reason that a certain setting of UC Browser is not in line with Google’s policy. We have conducted an urgent internal investigation and fixed the problem,” UCWeb said.

Ban is only for 7 days, so UC Browser might make its return to play store soon.
