Ransomware is malicious software that encrypts all your files and demands money for a decryption key. WannaCry Ransomware is one of the biggest Cyber Attacks in the world. It affected nearly 2 lakh computers (200,000 computers) in more than 150 countries.
Last Friday French researchers stated that they had found a way to decrypt all files that are encrypted by WannaCry RansomeWare.
Wanna Cry started to sweep round the globe and infected more than #3 lakh computers in 150 nations, threatens to lock victims permanently who haven’t paid $300 to $600 within a week of infection.
This Decryption software developed by french is called “WannaKiwi”.
The only solution- WannaKiwi
The group includes Adrien Guinet, who works as a security expert, Matthieu Suiche, who is an internationally-known hacker, and Benjamin Delpy, who helped out by night, in his spare time, outside his day job at the Banque de France.
“We knew we must go fast because, as time passes, there is less chance to recover,” Delpy said. It took 2 sleepless nights for him to find a workable way to decrypt WannaCry at 6 am Paris time (0400 GMT) on Friday.
Researchers said that their solution works under certain conditions:
- WannaKiwi works only if computers had not been rebooted since the infection.
- The WannaKiwi works only if Wanna Cry hadn’t carried out its threat to lock their files permanently.
Delpy calls his free tool “WanaKiwi” that fights WannaCry and decrypts all the encrypted files.
This is not the perfect solution but this so far the only solution present right now. Let’s hope the perfect comes very soon.
