Asus Zenfone 5z is launched in India; Here is everything you need to know

After unveiling the Asus Zenfone 5z in MWC 2018, Asus has finally released it in India. Asus is desperate in making this device a real competitor for OnePlus 6 and Honor10. Looking at the device, it actually feels like Asus has done an amazing job.

Asus launched its brand new flagship today in a launch event in India. Asus Zenfone 5Z is packed with decent looks, powerful internals, Snapdragon 845 Soc, 8GB of RAM and a 19:9 display making this device a real threat to existing budget flagships.

The company made some bold statements regarding its AI capabilities. Let’s see how this goes in the long run.

Asus Zenfone 5z is featuring a beautiful 18.7:9 full HD+  6.2-inch large display panel. It is not the best display in the market but offers good viewing experience. Yes, there is a notch, but very small compared to Apple’s and you’ll get used to it very soon. The notch packs a camera, sensors in it.

Asus Zenfone 5z has no IR face ID like iPhone X but has its own Face Unlock which uses front camera and software to make it work. The Face Unlock is not as secure as Apple’s but it is decently secure and surprisingly fast, in fact, faster than many others in the market.

Asus Zenfone 5z features Adreno 630 GPU coupled with a powerful octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC chip under the hood which the company claims to be 30% more powerful and 20% more power efficient than the previous generation chip(835).

This device comes with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of Internal storage for the high-end model. The base variant comes with 6GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage. So this should handle anything you through at it with ease. There is an expandable storage via micro-SD option which supports up to 2TB. Zenfone 5Z still keeps a 3.5mm headphone jack which is great for some users.

Camera

Zenfone 5Z has vertically stacked up dual cameras at the back which resembles iPhone x’s design.  The dual cameras include a 12MP f/1.8 aperture camera which supports OIS, and a secondary 8-megapixel OmniVision 8856 sensor with fixed focus, f/2.2 aperture. There is a single LED flash that lits up in dark. On the front, an 8MP camera is present in the notch area along with some sensors. The front camera is also used for the less secure Face Unlock.

This device runs on ZenUI 5.0 on top of Android Oreo 8.0 and is powered by 3300mAh non-removable battery which supports Qualcomm 3.0 quick charge. It also packs an 18W power brick inside. Asus claims a 60% charge in just 38min charge. Since it packs the power efficient Snapdragon 845, it lasts a complete day.

Interestingly, Asus launched their flagship product in India just 3 days before the release. Asus Zenfone 5Z will be released on 9th of July 2018 via Flipkart. Yes, the device is Flipkart exclusive and offers cashback as well.

The base variant of this model costs Rs. 29,999 where the high-end costs Rs. 36,999.

The price is good for the internals it provides making this a threat for OnePlus.
