The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 is here, continuing the company’s tradition of launching phones with good specifications at low price tags. The strategy has paid off spectacularly, as Xiaomi crossed the $1 billion revenue milestone in India last year.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Specifications
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 launched in India is powered by the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 (MSM8953) processor clocked at 2GHz with an integrated Adreno 506 GPU. Xiaomi is selling three variants of this model in India: 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage; 3GB of RAM and 32GB storage; and 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The company provided us with a sample of the top end variant for our Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 review.
Design and Display
Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 comes with a matte-finish metallic design that gives it a premium appearance. The phone has a metallic unibody that makes it look and feel much better than what its price may suggest. The rounded edges make for a comfortable and non-slippery grip in the hand. The volume rocker and power button are placed on the right, while the hybrid dual-SIM card tray is on the left.
The front panel is largely dominated by a 5.5-inch Full HD display and there are three capacitive keys at the bottom. The top edge has a 3.5mm audio jack, along with an IR blaster for controlling TVs and other appliances. A micro USB charging port is placed at the bottom. As for the rear panel, it’s home to a 13MP primary camera with dual LED flash, along with a fingerprint sensor.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 comes with a 5.5-inch Full HD 2.5D curved display of 1080×1920 pixel resolution. This is the first Xiaomi smartphone to sport a 2.5D curved display.
Performance
Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Prime is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. It also supports memory cards of up to 128GB in size. The company has also launched two other variants – 2GB RAM/32GB ROM and 3GB RAM/32GB ROM.
During our time with the device, the Redmi Note 4 delivered an overall smooth performance with no visible lag. The large display makes gaming and media consumption pretty enjoyable. We played games like Asphalt 8, Mini Militia etc. and the phone handled them very well.
Camera
For imaging duties, the Xiaomi Note 4 sports a 13MP rear camera with dual LED flash and a 5MP front camera for selfies. During our testing, we found camera performance of the device to be pretty decent. The smartphone uses a noise-eliminating CMOS sensor with backside illumination (BSI) and larger pixels to provide good shots even in low light conditions.
The smartphone’s cameras produced some really nice pictures during our testing. Focus is good and colour reproduction is accurate as well. There’s a burst mode included as well.
Conclusion
Priced at Rs 12,999, the Xiaomi Note 4 is a good option in its price segment. The smartphone offers premium features like metallic body design and good camera at a competitive price. Those looking for alternatives can consider buying Moto G4 or the Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime.
